Crescent Head is quiet by design — no high-rises, no crowds, no agenda. The deck wraps the house with the ocean on one side and the hinterland on the other, so a coffee at sunrise and a wine at sunset both happen without leaving home. Most couples don't get back in the car the whole stay.

Seven minutes downhill to the beach and the point. A short stroll to Barnett's bakery, dog-friendly cafés, and the country club bistro for dinner.
A weekend for two

- Friday: arrive, pour a wine, watch the light drop over the bay.
- Saturday: a slow walk to the point, breakfast at Barnett's, a long lunch at Sea Sea.
- Saturday night: fire on, dinner in, the deck to yourselves.
- Sunday: the headland walk, then a swim at Killick Creek before you go.

Dinner, sorted
Four dinners, no driving.
Crescent Head is small enough that you can walk to everywhere worth eating, which means nobody has to be the designated driver. Here's the rotation for a long weekend.
Cressence — the date night
A cafe by day that becomes a cocktail bistro from 5pm. Share plates, fresh seafood, a real wine list by the glass or the bottle, and a back deck made for a long evening. If you only book one dinner, make it this.

The Country Club bistro — the view
Overlooked because it sits inside the country club, which is a mistake. Honest food, quietly good value, and a dining deck looking south across the bay. Sunday lunch here is a local institution.

Mezzaluna2440 — the Italian
Unfussy, authentic Italian on Pacific Street — pizza, pasta, aperitivo, local and Italian beer. The answer on the night you don't want pub food. Also the best takeaway back to the deck.

In, by the fire
The one most couples end up loving most. A 900mm cooktop, something from the Foodworks on the main street, the fire lit, and the bay going dark in front of you. No booking required.

Timing it
When to come as a couple.
Summer is the obvious answer and the busiest one. If what you're after is quiet, the better months are the ones either side.
- Autumn (March–May): warm water, thinning crowds, and the light gets good on the headland in the late afternoon. Arguably the best all-round window.
- Winter (June–August): the quietest and the most underrated. Cold, clear mornings, the cleanest swell of the year at the point, and the fire earns its keep. Whales pass on the migration and you can watch them from the deck.
- Spring (September–November): the town wakes up slowly, the water warms, and you still get the place largely to yourselves midweek.
- Summer (December–February): busiest, warmest, and the beach is patrolled. Book well ahead, and expect company on the headland.
Before you book
Questions couples ask.
Is the whole house ours?
Yes. It's a three-bedroom house let as a whole — no shared spaces, no other guests, no host on site. Plenty of couples book it just for the two of them and use the second queen as a dressing room.
When is it quietest?
Outside the school holidays. The town empties out, the point gets calmer, and you can walk the headland at sunset without passing anyone. Winter is the sleeper season — cold mornings, clean swell, and a fire waiting when you get back.
Is there a fireplace?
A wood fireplace, with firewood and kindling supplied. In the colder months we pre-lay the first fire so all you need is a match. There's air-conditioning for the summer end of the year.
Where do we go for dinner?
Cressence turns from a daytime cafe into a cocktail bistro from 5pm — share plates, seafood, a proper wine list, and a back deck built for exactly that. Mezzaluna2440 is the Italian, and the Country Club bistro has the best view in town. All within a ten-minute walk.
Can we bring the dog?
Yes. Well-behaved, house-trained dogs are welcome as standard — there's a basket of bowls, toys and bags on the deck, and an outdoor shower for sandy paws.
Do we need a car?
To get here, yes — Crescent Head has no train station and limited transport. Once you've arrived, not really. The beach, the bakery, the cafes and every dinner option are inside a ten-minute walk.
