The deck at The Deck, Crescent Head — dining table for ten, columns, and the hinterland view

The View

The Deck is named
for a reason.

The deck wraps the house. Look east toward Hat Head and the Pacific stretches to the horizon. A longboard wave you can hear from bed. Look west and the hinterland softens into bushland, with kangaroos visiting at dusk.

Breakfast as the sun comes up. Dinner as it sets. Most guests don't leave for the first day.

Starlink, 200mbps

actually looks like.

    Arrive

Drop the bags. Pour a wine. The deck does the rest.

    4pm

  2. Saturday

    Dawn patrol

Walk seven minutes down the hill to the point. The wave is mellow, long, and forgiving.

    6am

  3. Saturday

    Barnett's

The best bakery on the Mid North Coast. Get a pie. Don't argue.

    9am

  4. Saturday

Fire on the deck. Hat Head turning gold. This is the bit you'll remember.

    5pm

  5. Sunday

    Killick Creek

Cross the bridge. Swim. Fish. Take the dog. The estuary is glass at low tide.

    8am

  6. Sunday

    Country club

Walk up to the headland. Six holes of golf (Australia's only accredited six-hole course), a roll on the bowls green, or just a cold one looking over the bay.

    11am

  7. Sunday

    Lunch at Sea Sea

Dog under the table, fish tacos, a midday glass of something. The kind of long lunch you put off for too long.
